Artist Statement

My pinup art is inspired one of the most mysterious phenomena in creation —the human female. I’ve always felt that beauty (and art in general) is meant to inspire or provoke. The feminine form carries a mysterious intelligence which can be both friendly and fierce at times. My personal (usually romantic) experiences have lead me to respect both facets of the feminine; after all, this duality reflects that found in the general human condition.

The heroines in my art, often inspired by real persons, have become mythological figures that are vessels for a deeper commentary. 

Equally important to the female protagonists is the wildness of nature. In particular the Leopard, or Panther, being chief ambassador. This powerful symbol was the first creative impulse that lead me to learn drawing as a child. The feline energy — wild, primal, unclaimed — reflects a vibrant inner fire that started as a small curious flame. Such a flame has grown to a blazing passion that has transformed my life.

While the themes I work with can be very abstract, the humanity in the paintings makes them more accessible — a familiar gesture, face or form.

Why conceptual pinup? This work is especially relevant today, a time where humanity is transitioning back to genuine meaning after tasting the bitterness of atheism, nihilisn and staunch materialism. Ultimately, my art is the story of the human journey back to divine union.
